Published On:

When many people think of Scotland they think of our breathtaking natural landscapes, architecture and history, perhaps golf and whisky might be on your mind too. These are all wonderful reasons to visit Scotland, but it’s also worth remembering that the world’s largest arts festival takes place in Scotland every summer.

The Edinburgh Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival happen every August and dominate Scotland’s capital for a few weeks. Edinburgh during the festival is a place of magic, the city buzzes with life as every type of art form jostles for your attention.

From internationally renowned performers to students putting on their first show, from the Royal Military Tattoo, which takes place at Edinburgh Castle every evening through to church halls turned into temporary theatres for a handful of people. Even the cities streets, squares and courtyards are turned into performance areas. The city embraces it’s festival like nowhere else on earth.

The programme for the Edinburgh International Festival launches on the 11th March, full details can be found here. Details for the incredible Fringe Festival can be found on their website.

There is truly something for everyone, from dance to music to comedy to theatre and everything in between. The evening fireworks, bursting high over Edinburgh Castle, is a sight that will live with you for a long time.
